SHELLEY HACK'S APPLE BROWN BETTY 
4 tart apples, pared and sliced
1/2 tsp. ground cinnamon
2-3 tbsp. brown or granulated sugar
1/4 tsp. mace or cloves

1. Arrange sliced apples in bottom of a buttered 9 inch pie plate.

2. Sprinkle with cinnamon, sugar and mace.

FOR THE TOPPING:

1 stick butter
1 c. flour
1 c. brown sugar

1. Cut butter into flour and brown sugar in mixing bowl to form fine crumbs.

2. Pile crumb topping evenly over sliced apples in pie plate.

3. Bake in preheated 350 degree F. oven 45 minutes until top is browned and apples are tender. Serve hot, alone, or with dollop of plain yogurt or whipped cream.
