OLD-FASHIONED APPLE BROWN BETTY 
4 c. (1 qtsp.) small bread cubes
1/2 c. (1 stick) butter, melted
1/2 tsp. ground cinnamon
1/8 tsp. ground nutmeg
1/8 tsp. salt
2/3 c. brown sugar, firmly packed
4 c. diced, peeled, tart apples
1 (9 oz.) container frozen non-dairy whipped topping, thawed

Heat oven to 375°F. Combine bread cubes, melted butter, spices, salt and brown sugar and toss lightly together. Arrange bread mixture in alternate layers with diced apples in 1 1/2-quart buttered baking dish.

Bake 50 minutes or until apples are tender and top is browned. Serve warm. Add whipped topping and sprinkle with nutmeg.

Makes 4 to 5 servings.
