FRESH BLACKBERRY (OR PEACH)
COBBLER
 
1/4 lb. butter, room temperature
4 c. blackberries or peaches (fresh)
2 c. sugar
1 1/4 c. flour
2 tsp. baking powder
1 c. milk

Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Melt butter in long, shallow baking dish. Dump freshly picked berries in large pan of cold water, then gently lift them out into a big bowl or peel fresh peaches and cut into thin slices. Add 1 cup of the sugar and gently toss fruit with a fork to coat evenly.

Mix together the remaining sugar, flour, baking powder, and milk. Pour over melted butter; don't stir. Pour berries or peach slices over surface of batter, spreading evenly. Bake in preheated oven for 40 to 45 minutes. Serve warm or chilled with sweetened whipped cream or vanilla ice cream, if desired.
