WESTERN WALNUTS 
1 1/2 cups sugar
1/2 cup orange juice
1 tsp. grated orange peel
1/2 lb. shelled walnuts
1/4 cup slivered citron

Cook sugar and orange juice to soft ball stage, or 240°F on a candy thermometer. Remove from heat, stir in orange peel, nuts and slivered citron, and stir until the sugar coating looks cloudy. Drop from a heated moist spoon onto cool plate or waxed paper, let set, then break into bite sized portions.
