WHITE CAKE 
1 1/2 c. sugar
1/2 c. shortening
1 c. sweet milk
2 1/2 c. flour
2 level tsp. baking powder
4 egg whites
1/4 tsp. salt
Vanilla

Sift flour, baking powder and salt together. Cream sugar and shortening together. Add milk alternately with flour. About 1/3 at a time. Beat well between each addition. Fold stiffly beaten egg whites. Add vanilla. Bake in well greased pans at 300-350 degrees. Will make three 8 or 9 inch layers.

ICING:

5 egg yolks
1 c. sugar
1 c. butter

Put in top of double boiler over hot water. Cook until clear looking, then let cool and add nuts, maraschino cherries or pineapple. It is good with any kind of icing.
