APPLE DUMPLINGS 
1 1/2 c. sugar
1 1/2 c. water
1/4 tsp. cinnamon
1/4 tsp. nutmeg
6-10 drops red food coloring

Bring to a boil and add:

3 tbsp. butter

Remove from heat.

Sift together:

2 c. flour
2 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. salt
2/3 c. shortening
1/2 c. milk

After rolling out enough dough for one dumpling, place one peeled apple in the middle and add sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and butter. Fold dough over the apple, place in baking dish. Continue until the dish is full. Pour liquid over the dumplings and bake for 35 minutes at 375.

Makes 6 dumplings.
