GRANDMA'S NUT ROLLS | |
1/4 c. lukewarm milk Add 1 yeast cake 2 tbsp. sugar Mix. Let stand. 4 cups flour - make a well in the flour. Add 4 egg yolks, 1 cup milk, 1 teaspoon salt and add rind of an orange or a lemon. Mix all together with the yeast mixture, then gradually add 1 stick of melted butter (let it cool first) and 2-3 tablespoons chicken fat or lard. Mix well. Let rise in covered bowl about 2-2 1/2 hours (should almost double in size). Knead into 4 pieces. Add about 1 1/2 cups of nuts to each roll out piece. Let nut rolls stand until they rise (about 15 minutes). Brush with beaten egg. Prick the top of the rolls with a fork. Bake in 350 degree oven in greased pans for 40 minutes. |
