GRAM SMITH'S BREAD PUDDING 
8 slices toasted bread
1/3 c. melted butter
2 c. applesauce
1/2 c. raisins
1/2 c. brown sugar
1/2 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. nutmeg
1/2 tsp. salt
2 tbsp. lemon juice
3 eggs, beaten
1/4 c. sugar
1 1/2 c. milk

Arrange 4 slices of toast brushed with half of the butter in a 9-inch square glass baking pan. Mix all but the eggs, sugar and milk and spread on toast layer. Top with remaining toast and butter. Mix eggs, sugar and milk and pour over toast layers. Cover with foil and set in larger pan. Fill outer container with 1/2 inch of hot water and bake in preheated 350 degree oven for 45 minutes. Serve warm or cold.
