FRIED GREEN TOMATOES 
6 half ripe or green tomatoes, sliced
1 c. cornmeal
1 c. vegetable shortening
Salt to taste

Put vegetable shortening in large fry pan, let heat. Add salt to sliced tomatoes, then dip in cornmeal and cover both sides with meal mixture. Fry in vegetable oil until brown on both sides. Serves six.
