CHOP SUEY | |
1 sm. onion, chopped 1/2 stick butter 1 c. celery, chopped 1 c. hot water 1/2 tsp. salt 1/2 tsp. pepper 2 cans bean sprouts, partially drained 1 lg. can mushrooms, drained completely 2 lbs. pork steak, cut into sm. pieces THICKENING: 3 tbsp. cornstarch 1 tsp. sugar 1/2 - 1 tsp. soy sauce Add a little water to above ingredients and stir well. Brown butter and onions. Add meat and brown. Mix celery, hot water, salt and pepper together and add. Cover pan and simmer 15 to 20 minutes until celery is cooked. Watch and add water if necessary. Remove lid, add bean sprouts and thickening, add mushrooms and stir all together well. Let simmer at least 1 hour before serving. Serves best over rice. Serves 6. |
