DARTMOUTH OATMEAL BREAD | |
2 c. boiling water 1 c. oats (regular or quick) 2 tbsp. shortening 1 pkg. yeast 1/2 c. dark molasses 2 tsp. salt 5-6 c. flour Soak oats in boiling water for 10 minutes. Add 2 tablespoons shortening. When mixture is just warm and yeast. Mix in molasses and salt. Work in flour. Knead until smooth and elastic, adding more flour for a firm dough. Place in a greased bowl. Cover with a damp towel and let rise until double in size. Punch down and shape into 2 loaves. Place loaves in 2 loaf pans. Let rise until above pan top. Again cover with a towel. Bake at 350 degrees for 45 minutes. |
