FRUIT CAKE 
1 lb. mixed candied fruit
1 c. dates (chopped)
1 lb. raisins
1 lb. nuts (walnut)
2 slices candied pineapple for top of cake and candied cherries
2 c. applesauce or 1 can
1 1/2 c. sugar
3/4 c. shortening (Crisco)
1 1/2 tsp. baking soda
Pinch of salt
3 c. all purpose flour
1 tsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. cloves
1/2 tsp. nutmeg

Mix candied fruit, nuts, raisins, sugar, shortening. Sift dry ingredients and mix well with other mixture. Line tube pan all over with wax paper. Pour in tube pan. Put candied pineapple and cherries on top of cake. Bake 3 hours at 250 to 275 degrees.

Let cool about 2 hours before taking from pan. Wrap in heavy Reynolds Wrap. Put apple or orange slice on top of cake to moisten.
