CABBAGE CASSEROLE | |
2 lbs. ground meat (brown & drain) 1 c. rice, uncooked 1 head cabbage, shredded 2 1/2 c. water 1 tbsp. soy sauce 2 cans tomato soup 4 or 8 slices bacon 1 med. onion, chopped 1 sm. can sauerkraut (opt.) Brown ground meat. Fry bacon slices until crisp and remove. (Crumble for top of casserole) In bacon grease add onion and rice, uncooked, until onion is tender. Add bacon grease, rice and onion to ground meat. Put 1/2 of cabbage in 9"x13" pan. Cover with meat mixture. Layer remaining cabbage over this. In a saucepan, combine soup, water and soy sauce. Warm until thoroughly mixed. Pour over casserole. Top with crumbled bacon. Cover with foil. Bake at 350 degrees for 2 hours. As you see, no salt or pepper. Season to taste when you use. |
