WAFFLE BROWNIES 
1 c. sugar
1/2 c. shortening
2 eggs
1/2 c. milk
1 1/2 c. flour
1 tsp. baking powder
2 squares chocolate, melted
1/2 tsp. vanilla
1 c. finely chopped walnuts (optional)

Cream shortening and sugar. Add eggs and beat well. Add chocolate and mix well. Mix and sift dry ingredients. Add to creamed mixture alternately with milk.

NOTE: The waffle iron should not be as hot as for plain waffles. Drop about 1 tablespoon batter in each section and bake 2-3 minutes. Remove and roll in powdered sugar while warm. Serve plain or can be used with whipped cream or ice cream in layers for a dessert.
