3 c. sugar
1/2 c. white Karo syrup
1/2 c. cold water
2 egg whites
Pinch of salt
Nuts (optional)

Beat egg whites. Boil sugar, syrup, and water to soft ball stage. Pour half of mixture into egg whites, beating constantly. Continue beating and boil remaining syrup to hard crack stage and add to egg white mixture. Add 1 teaspoon vanilla and beat until it loses gloss. Drop by teaspoons onto waxed paper. Nuts may be added.
