1 sq. chocolate
1/2 c. boiling water
1/4 c. shortening
1/4 c. milk
1 c. sugar
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1/4 tsp. salt
1 lg. egg
1 c. flour
1 tsp. vanilla

Melt chocolate and shortening in water. Stir in sugar and egg and beat well. Sift together flour, soda and salt. Add to above. Add milk and vanilla - beating well.

Pour into greased and floured 8 x 8 inch cake pan and bake at 350 degrees until done. Serve with whipped cream or chocolate sauce.
