OATMEAL BREAD | |
1 1/2 c. water 1 1/2 tsp. salt 1 1/2 c. rolled oats 1/2 c. brown sugar 1 tbsp. shortening 1 cake compressed yeast 1/4 c. lukewarm water 3 to 3 1/2 c. flour Bring to boil in saucepan 1 1/2 cups water, salt. Stir in oatmeal (do not boil), brown sugar and shortening. Dissolve yeast in 1/4 cup lukewarm water. Blend in yeast with oatmeal mixture. Blend in flour. Dough will be sticky. Turn loaf into greased 9 x 5 x 3 inch bread pan. Let raise until double. Make 1 loaf. Bake at 375 degrees for 40 to 45 minutes. |
