OVERNIGHT CHEESE STRATA | |
8 slices white bread Cheese, grated 4 slices bacon, cooked & broken up 4 eggs, beaten 2 c. milk 1 tsp. salt 1 tsp. prepared mustard Cut crusts from bread. Lay 4 slices in glass 8 x 8 inch dish. Put grated cheese (whatever kind and amount you like) on top. Add bacon pieces. Put 4 more slices of bread on top. Add milk and seasonings to the beaten eggs. Pour over bread, pat down. Cover and let set in refrigerator overnight. Bake at 325 degrees for 40 to 45 minutes. Remove from oven and let stand about 5 minutes before cutting. Cut into squares and serve just as it is or you can pour on a mushroom- cheese sauce. 9 servings. This is a basic recipe, easy to expand. Just add one egg and 1/2 cup milk per person. ADDITIONAL VARIETY: Add broccoli, mixed vegetables, chicken pieces, sausage and varieties of cheeses. It is also good to put in seafood: crab, sea legs or lobster. |
