3/4 c. milk 1 tbsp. vinegar 1/2 c. cocoa 1 tsp. baking soda 1/3 c. warm water 1/2 c. shortening 1 1/2 c. sugar 2 eggs 1 3/4 c. all-purpose flour 1 tsp. salt Combine milk and vinegar. Let stand. Combine cocoa, soda and warm water. Cream shortening and sugar, add eggs 1 at a time. Add flour and salt. Gradually add milk and cocoa mixtures until mixed. Bake 350°F for 30 to 35 minutes. | |

Mix the cocoa, water and baking soda together in a little bowl before adding to batter with milk mixture. This same recipe is the one my mother always made. She always put a "Fluffy Frosting" on it which is like a marshmallow like frosting.
