GINGERSNAPS 
1 c. granulated sugar
3/4 c. shortening
1/4 c. molasses
1 egg
2 c. sifted all-purpose flour
1 1/2 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. salt
1 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. cloves
1/4 tsp. nutmeg
1 1/2 tsp. ginger
1/2 c. granulated sugar

Cream sugar and shortening until light and fluffy. Add molasses and beaten egg. Beat thoroughly. Sift flour with soda, salt, and spices. Add to creamed mixture and blend until all ingredients are well mixed. Form small portions of chilled batter into small balls, walnut size. Roll balls in granulated sugar.

Place 2 inches apart on greased cookie sheet, and bake at 375 degrees for 15 minutes. Remove at once from cookie sheet and cool on wire rack. Makes 5 dozen. Taste just as good as the purchased ones. Even better.
