SPICED STEW 
1 1/2 lbs. lean beef stew meat in cubes
Flour for dredging
2 tbsp. oil
1 1/2 tsp. salt
1/4 tsp. pepper
1 c. water
1/3 c. sugar
1/2 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. allspice
1/4 tsp. ground cloves
2 tbsp. vinegar
1 c. apricots (dried)
1 c. prunes (dried)

Dredge meat in flour, brown in hot oil. Pour water over met and simmer 1 hour. Add sugar, vinegar and spices. Simmer an additional half hour, adding prunes and apricots for the last 15-20 minutes. The fruit needs to cook long enough to be soft but still in whole pieces.
