M & M COOKIES 
1/2 c. shortening
1/2 c. sugar
1/2 c. brown sugar
1/2 tsp. vanilla
1 egg
1 c. quick cooking rolled oats
1 c. flour
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. salt
1 tsp. water
1 (7 oz.) pkg. M & M's, plain or peanut

Cream shortening, sugars, and vanilla. Beat in egg, then water. Sift together flour, soda, and salt; add to creamed mixture, blending well. Stir in rolled oats. Drop 1 teaspoon dough on to greased cookie sheet. Press in M & M's. One dozen per pan. Bake at 375 degrees for 8 minutes. Makes about 3 dozen cookies.
