WILTED LETTUCE OR CABBAGE | |
1 head lettuce or leaf lettuce or 1 head cabbage 1/2 lb. diced bacon 1/2 glass white vinegar plus fill glass to 3/4 with hot water Salt, pepper and 2 tbsp. white sugar 1 med. size onion Clean lettuce and put into large bowl or grate head of cabbage. Cut onion in small pieces on top of either lettuce or cabbage. Then sprinkle salt, pepper and 2 tablespoons white sugar over top. Dice the bacon and put into frying pan. At the last minute, cook bacon until brown, but not crisp. Then pour the vinegar and hot water mixture over the hot bacon and pour this over the lettuce or grated cabbage. Mix and stir through well and put into large bowl by draining off excess liquid. This recipe is for family size, cut down as desired. |
