APPLE SQUARES
2 c. flour
1 tsp. salt
2/3 c. shortening or butter
5 to 6 tbsp. water

FILLING:

1/2 c. corn flake crumbs
1 (16 oz.) can slices apples or 6 c. sliced apples, sprinkled with 1 tbsp. lemon juice
3 tbsp. sugar
1 tbsp. cinnamon
1/4 c. butter

TOPPING:

2 tbsp. powdered sugar
1 tbsp. water

Mix flour and salt in bowl. Cut in shortening until mixture is the size of small peas. Sprinkle water, a little at a time, stirring lightly with a fork until dough is moist enough to hold together. Divide in half. Roll out dough and place one layer on a cookie sheet. Sprinkle bottom pastry with corn flake crumbs. Arrange apple slices on next. Mix sugar and cinnamon together; sprinkle over apples. Dot butter over all. Roll out rest of pastry. Place on top of apples. Make holes in top with fork. Fold edges of pastry together and press with fork. Bake at 450 degrees for 30 to 45 minutes or until crust is golden. Mix together powdered sugar and water; drizzle over hot pastry. When cool, cut and serve.
