GRANDMA'S SUGAR COOKIES | |
2 c. sugar 1 c. lard (I use butter or Crisco) 2 eggs 1 tsp. baking soda 2 tsp. baking powder 1 tsp. salt 1 tsp. vanilla 1 c. sour milk 4 c. flour or enough to make soft dough Cream sugar and shortening until fluffy. Add beaten eggs. Beat well and add milk and vanilla. Sift flour, salt, baking powder and soda together. Stir into creamed mixture. Add enough flour to make soft dough. Roll out and cut with cookie cutters. Bake in very hot oven (400 degrees) until light brown. You can sprinkle sugar on these or decorate with frosting. These cookies keep very well in cookie jar. If you don't have sour milk, mix 1 cup sweet milk with 1 teaspoon vinegar. Let stand 5 minutes. |
