BASIC ROLL RECIPE | |
1 pkg. dry yeast 1/4 c. warm water 1 c. scalded milk 1/4 c. sugar 1/4 c. shortening (or butter) 1 tsp. salt 3 1/2 c. flour 1 egg Dissolve yeast in warm water. Set aside. Add sugar, shortening and salt to scalded milk. Let cool. After cooling, add 1/2 of flour and mix. Add remaining flour. Place mixture in large greased bowl and cover and place in warm area to raise (can be placed in cold oven with a pan of hot water under bowl) until doubled. Then roll out on floured surface and cut or make desired shapes. After shaping, place on greased pans to let raise again. Then bake in 400 degree oven for approximately 10 minutes or until golden brown. Brush with melted butter immediately after removing from oven. |
