MOM'S NORWEGIAN JULEKAGE | |
1 recipe Sweet Dough 1 tsp. ground cardamom 1 c. chopped, mixed candied fruit 1/2 c. dark raisins 1 egg yolk, slightly beaten 1 tbsp. water Vanilla Icing (recipe follows) Prepare Sweet Dough, substituting cardamom for lemon peel, and stirring candied fruit and raisins into dough before kneading. Let rise as directed. Divide in half. Shape each half into a round loaf. Place, 4 inches apart, on greased large baking sheet. Cover; let rise until doubled, about 1 to 1 1/4 hours. Mix egg yolk with water; brush over loaves. Bake in 350 degree oven for 35 minutes or until golden brown. Remove from baking sheets; cool on racks. Frost with Vanilla Icing. Makes 2 loaves. VANILLA ICING: Stir together 2 cups sifted confectioners' sugar, 1/2 teaspoon vanilla and 8 teaspoons milk until smooth. |
