Vegetable oil for deep-frying
1 c. cornmeal
1 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. salt
1 tsp. sugar
1 c. flour
1 egg beaten
3/4 c. milk
Dash of Tabasco
1 tbsp. finely chopped green onion

Sift dry ingredients into a bowl. Add beaten egg and milk to cornmeal mixture. Mix in onion and Tabasco. Drop by heaping teaspoons into hot fat (375°F) and fry until brown. Drain and serve.
