OLD-FASHIONED CARAMEL CAKE 
1 stick butter
1 1/2 c. sugar
2 eggs
2 c. sifted flour
1 c. buttermilk
1 tbsp. vinegar
1 tsp. baking soda

Cream together butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add eggs, one at a time, and continue beating. Add sifted flour alternately with buttermilk. Blend well. Stir in soda which has been dissolved in vinegar. Pour into 2 greased and floured 9 inch layer cake pans. Bake in a 350 degree oven for 25 minutes. Cool and frost with:

CARAMEL FROSTING:

1 stick butter
1 box light brown sugar
1/2 c. evaporated milk
1/2 tsp. baking powder
