MOLASSES CAKE

In a bowl place:

1/2 cup sugar
1 teaspoon cinnamon
3/4 teaspoon ground cloves
1 tablespoon shortening
1 egg

Cream together above mixture and add:

1 cup molasses

Stir. Add slowly to this mixture:

2 cups flour
1 cup hot coffee into which 1 level teaspoon baking soda has been dissolved

Grease and flour cake pan.

Bake in a preheated 350°F for 25 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in center comes out clean.
