BISCUIT DOUGHNUTS
2 c. Bisquick
2 tbsp. sugar
1 tsp. vanilla
1 egg
1/4 c. milk
1/4 tsp. cinnamon
1/4 tsp. nutmeg
Confectioners' sugar or a mixture of cinnamon and granulated sugar

Mix all ingredients until smooth. Gently smooth dough into a ball on floured board. Knead 8 to 10 times. Roll dough out 1/4 inch thick; cut with floured doughnut cutter. Heat oil (3 to 4 inches) to 375 degrees in kettle or deep fat fryer. Drop doughnuts and holes into hot fat. Fry about 1/2 minute on each side or until golden brown. Drain on paper towels. Put sugar in a bag and shake doughnuts until coated.

For Chocolate Doughnuts: Add 1/4 cup cocoa with baking mix; increase sugar to 1/4 cup and milk to 1/3 cup. Omit cinnamon and nutmeg.

This is a recipe that our family used to make. My mother cut the doughnuts, I fried them, and my little brother shook them in the bag of sugar and ate the holes.
