1 c. butter, softened
1 c. white sugar
2 eggs
1 tsp. vanilla
1 c. liquid shortening
1 tsp. baking soda
4 c. flour
1 tsp. cream of tartar
1/2 tsp. salt

Cream together first 5 ingredients, then add remaining ingredients. Chill. Roll dough into small balls; roll in granulated sugar, place on cookie sheets and press out with fork. Bake 12 minutes at 350 degrees.
