CHEWY OATMEAL COOKIES 
1 cup sifted all-purpose flour
3/4 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. salt
1 tsp. cinnamon
1/4 tsp. nutmeg
3/4 cups shortening (soft)
1 1/3 cups firmly packed brown sugar
2 eggs
1 tsp. vanilla
2 cups oats, uncooked
1 cup raisins

Preheat oven to 350°F.

Sift together flour, baking soda, salt, cinnamon and nutmeg into bowl. Add shortening, sugar, eggs and vanilla; beat until smooth, about 2 minutes. Stir in oats and raisins. Drop by heaping teaspoon onto greased cookie sheet. Bake in 350°F oven for 12 to 15 minutes.
