BUTTERED FRUIT PIE 
3 to 4 c. canned or frozen fruit, very juicy, sweeten to taste
1 c. self-rising flour
1 c. sugar
1 stick butter, softened
1 egg

(Or a cup of plain flour with 1/2 teaspoon each of salt and baking powder).

Place fruit in baking dish. Blend remaining ingredients until crumbly. Spread on top of fruit. Bake at 325 degrees for 30 minutes, or until fruit is bubbling and topping is browned. Serves 6 to 8. Strawberries, peaches, cherries, blackberries or blueberries may be used.
