RICH BISCUITS | |
2 c. flour 1 tsp. salt 1/8 to 1/4 c. sugar 6 tbsp. shortening (generous) 1 tbsp. baking powder 1 egg, beaten with fork + Enough milk to make 2/3 c. Depends on whether you want it for dessert or not. Sift dry ingredients together. Add shortening and blend with pastry blender until size of a pea. Add beaten egg and milk to the flour mixture and mix with a fork. This makes an extremely short dough. Turn onto floured surface and pat to about 1/2 inch or so thick. Cut with biscuit cutter or cut into squares with knife. May be patted into an oblong shape or rolled gently, spread with Wesson oil, lightly, then sprinkled with cinnamon and sugar. Nuts and raisins may be added. Roll up like a jelly roll. Bake for 15 to 20 minutes at 350 degrees. Cut jelly roll into 1 inch pieces before baking. Frost cinnamon biscuits with powdered sugar frosting. |
