DATE BREAD 
PART 1:

3/4 c. dates, chopped
1 c. walnuts, chopped
3 tbsp. butter
1 c. boiling water
1 1/2 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. salt

PART 2:

2 eggs, well beaten
1 c. sugar
1 1/2 c. flour
1 tsp. vanilla

Place Part 1 ingredients in a bowl. Pour boiling water over and allow to stand while preparing Part 2. Beat eggs well, add sugar; continue beating. Add flour and vanilla. Combine with Part 1 and bake in greased bread pan or in uncovered coffee cans. Bake at 350 degrees for 1 hour to 1 hour and 10 minutes. (Pan is very full.)
