DENISE'S FAVORITE SUGAR COOKIES | |
1 c. butter, softened 1 1/2 c. confectioners' (powdered) sugar 1 egg 1 tsp. vanilla 1/2 tsp. almond extract 2 1/2 c. all-purpose flour 1 tsp. baking soda 1 tsp. cream of tartar Granulated sugar or colored sugar Mix butter, confectioners' sugar, egg, vanilla and almond extract. Blend in flour, soda and cream of tartar. Cover. Chill for 2-3 hours. Heat oven to 375 degrees. Roll dough out, about a third at a time, until it is 1/8 inch thick. Use a lightly floured surface. Cut into desired shapes and sprinkle with sugar. Bake 7-8 minutes or until lightly browned on the edge. Makes about 5 dozen 1/2 inch cookies. This recipe doubles well. The key to good sugar cookies is to roll the dough thin enough to have a crispy cookie. Red and green sugars are perfect for the holidays! |
