TURNIPS AUGRATIN 
1 lb. turnips, sliced in 1/4 inch pieces
2 onions, sliced in 1/4 inch pieces
1/4 tsp. sugar
1 tbsp. butter
1 tbsp. flour
1 c. milk
1/8 tsp. pepper
1/4 tsp. salt
1/2 c. American cheese, shredded
1 tbsp. butter, melted
1/4 tsp. paprika
2/3 c. bread crumbs or Corn Flake crumbs

Combine onion, turnip and sugar in Dutch oven, cover with water, bring to a boil. Cover, reduce heat and simmer 8 minutes, drain. Set aside. Melt 1 tablespoon butter in heavy saucepan over low heat. Add flour, stirring constantly until thick and bubbly. Add pepper, milk, salt and cheese. Stir until cheese melts. Remove from heat; layer turnip mixture and cheese sauce in greased 1-quart casserole dish. Combine melted butter and bread crumbs. Sprinkle over casserole. Bake at 350 degrees for 25 minutes.
