DATE NUT LOAF CAKE 
3 box dates
2 c. cherries
8 c. nut meats
2 c. shortening
2 tsp. vanilla
Dash of salt
8 eggs, separated
2 c. flour
2 c. sugar
Flour for nuts and cherries

Cream shortening and sugar, add well-beaten egg yolks, vanilla and salt. Add fruit and flour, mix well. Last fold in stiffly beaten egg whites. Bake 1 1/2 hours at 250 degrees, increase heat to 350 degrees and bake 1 1/2 hours longer.
