SNICKERDOODLES (SUGAR COOKIES
WITH CINNAMON AND SUGAR)
 
1 c. soft shortening
1 1/2 c. sugar
2 eggs
2 3/4 c. flour
2 tsp. cream of tartar
1 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. salt

Thoroughly mix together shortening, sugar, and eggs. Add remaining ingredients. Chill dough. Roll in balls the size of walnuts. Roll in a mixture of: 2 tbsp. sugar and 2 tsp. cinnamon. Place about 2 inches apart on ungreased cookie sheet. Bake 8 to 10 minutes in a moderately hot oven, until lightly brown, but still soft. These cookies puff out at first then flatten out with crinkled tops. Makes about 3 dozen 2 inch cookies.
