BUTTERCREAM ICING 
1/2 c. shortening
1/2 c. butter, softened
1 tsp. vanilla
4 c. powdered sugar
2 tbsp. milk

In a large bowl cream butter and shortening together. Add vanilla. Gradually add sugar, 1 cup at a time, beating well on medium speed. Scrape sides and bottom of bowl often. Add milk and beat at high speed until light and fluffy. Keep icing covered with a damp cloth until you're ready to use. For best results, keep icing bowl in refrigerator. When not in use, (1/2 recipe for Frosted Creams).
