VINEGAR CANDY
2 c. sugar
1/2 c. vinegar (if vinegar is quite strong, use 1/2 water)
2 tbsp. butter

Cook to firm ball stage (like fudge), then beat until it is creamy and begins to thicken. Pour quickly onto buttered plate and cut at once.

VARIATION: Can also be cooked to hard ball stage (click, like taffy) and poured at once onto buttered plate. Break with knife handle like peanut brittle. This will be clear, the beaten one will be creamy looking.

I have tried this recipe, used to make it when I was a kid, forgot all about it until I got a book out of the library on the uses of vinegar, was I ever surprised to find this recipe inside. The only thing I did different was put a few drops of food coloring in when it is cooking, does change the taste a little, and the look a lot, lol. Really good candy,
