2 c. sugar
1 c. shortening
5 1/2 c. flour
4 eggs, beaten
1 tsp. salt
1 tsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. nutmeg
1 pkg. chocolate chips
3 1/2 c. applesauce
1 tsp. baking soda

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Put soda on applesauce while mixing rest of ingredients. Mix ingredients together, then add applesauce. (You can also add nuts.) Bake 15 to 20 minutes until golden brown.
