DATE AND NUT PINWHEELS 
1/2 c. butter
1/2 c. brown sugar
1/2 c. white sugar
1/2 tsp. vanilla
1 egg
2 c. sifted flour
1/8 tsp. salt
1/4 tsp. baking soda

FILLING:

1 (7 1/4 oz.) pkg. dates
1/4 c. sugar
1/8 tsp. salt
1/3 c. water
1 lg. pkg. nuts

Dough: Cream butter and brown sugar. Add 1/2 cup white sugar, vanilla, and egg. Beat until light. Add sifted dry ingredients. Chill until firm enough to roll.

Filling: Bring dates to boil with sugar, salt, and water. Simmer 5 minutes, stirring often. Add nuts. Cool. Halve dough. Roll each half on floured waxed paper into 9 x 12 inch rectangle. Spread with filling. Roll up tightly. Wrap in paper. Chill overnight. Slice 1/8 inch thick. Bake at 350 degrees for 10 minutes.
