APPLE CRISP 
8-10 lg. green pie apples, peeled and sliced
2 tbsp. cinnamon
1/2 c. butter
3/4 c. brown sugar
1/2 c. flour
3 pkgs. instant apple and cinnamon oatmeal
1/2 c. water

Put apples in large cast iron skillet or Dutch oven. Combine cinnamon, butter, sugar, flour and oatmeal. Mix until crumbly and sprinkle over apples. Pour on water and cover with a lid. Bank coals around the sides of oven and place a few coals on top. It is not necessary to bury the pan completely. Cook 40 minutes, adding coals when needed. Serve with whipped topping. Serves 12-15. Wonderful dessert for pack trips.
