COUNTRY STYLE STEAK | |
2 to 3 lbs. top round cubed steak Salt Pepper Flour Roll meat in flour. Brown in very hot oil (about 375 to 400 degrees). Watch closely, not to burn. Remove browned steak to a Dutch oven. Make gravy by browning flour (about 3 to 4 tablespoons) in hot drippings until very dark brown. Reduce heat and add water to make a thin gravy. Pour gravy over meat in Dutch oven, cover and let simmer at least 1 1/2 hours; until meat is tender. May need to add water as gravy thickens. DAUGHTER'S VARIATION: Place browned meat in casserole dish. Add sliced onion rings to meat. Mix 1 can mushroom soup with 1 can water and pour over meat. Bake in oven at 350 degrees for about 1 1/2 hours. Can cook in crock pot all day also. Serve over hot rice or creamed potatoes. |
