MARY ANN'S BEER STEW 
3 lbs. boneless chuck, cut into 1" cubes
1 c. flour
2 tsp. salt
1 tsp. pepper
1/3 c. vegetable shortening
6 lg. onions, peeled & quartered
1 can (10 1/2 oz.) condensed beef broth
1/2 tsp. thyme, crumbled
2 cloves garlic, chopped
2 c. beef
1/4 c. parsley, chopped
1 bay leaf

Mix flour, salt and pepper and roll meat cubes in mixture. Heat shortening in a Dutch oven, brown meat cubes on all sides. Then add remaining ingredients. Cover tightly and simmer 1-2 hours or until beef is tender. Stir occasionally and add water as needed to keep stew from sticking. Serves 6-8.
