SHOEFLY CAKE 
4 c. flour
1 lb. brown sugar
1 c. butter

Mix together. Save 1 1/2 cups for crumb topping. Mix and add to dry ingredients: (mixture will be thin).

2 c. boiling water
1 c. Old Barrel Syrup (or Dark King Syrup)
2 tsp. baking soda

Pour into greased and floured pan. Sprinkle with reserved crumbs. Bake at 350 degrees for 45 minutes.
