SWEDISH RYE BREAD 
3 c. water
2 tsp. anise seeds
1/3 c. molasses
1/2 tsp. salt
3/4 c. brown sugar
5 tbsp. shortening
1 tbsp. yeast
3 c. rye flour
5 c. white flour

Boil first 4 ingredients, 3 minutes. Strain out seeds. Add brown sugar and shortening, cool. Add yeast and rye flour. Add about 2 cups of white flour. Let raise 15 minutes. Put on floured surface using remaining flour until smooth and elastic. Let raise until doubled. Makes 3 loaves. Bake in 350 degree oven for 30-35 minutes. Brush loaves with butter. Raisins can be added.
