JENNIE'S SWEDISH RYE BREAD | |
3 c. liquid (1/2 milk, 1/2 water) 1 pkg. yeast (in 1/4 c. warm water) 1/2 c. shortening 1/3 to 1/2 c. molasses 3 c. medium rye flour White flour, as needed 2 tbsp. salt (or less) 2 tbsp. sugar Heat liquid and shortening until quite warm. Add to sugar and salt. Cool. Add yeast mixture. Mix in the rye flour; add molasses. Mix in enough white flour so dough can be easily handled. Knead 5 to 10 minutes. Let rise until double. Form into 3 loaves. Put into 3 regular sized bread pans. Let rise. Bake at 350 degrees 45 to 60 minutes. |
